Justice North & Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota are joining forces to provide free civil legal help across northern Minnesota.

Justice North is growing! The merger of two Minnesota legal aid organizations—Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota (LSNM) and Justice North—is coming up on January 1, 2026.

The new Justice North will serve 33 counties across northern Minnesota, creating one of the largest civil legal aid service areas in the state. By bringing our organizations together, we'll be able to offer more comprehensive services, deeper expertise, and stronger community presence throughout this entire region.

Why are Justice North and LSNM merging? 

We’re joining forces by choice because we believe it will make our services even stronger for the communities we care about. Through this merger, Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota and Justice North can combine our strengths, streamline our work, and make it easier for people to access the civil legal help they need. Coming together as one unified team means greater stability, expanded capacity, and more consistent support for individuals and families across northern Minnesota. We’re genuinely excited about what this will mean for the future—and most importantly, for the people we serve.

Where will Justice North’s offices be located?

All existing Justice North and LSNM offices will keep operating as part of the new Justice North! We’ll have offices in these Minnesota cities: Alexandria, Bemidji, Brainerd, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Moorhead, Pine City, and Virginia.

 

What parts of Minnesota will the new, larger Justice North serve?    

All counties currently served by Justice North and LSNM will be served by the new Justice North starting in 2026. This includes:  
Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Carlton, Cass, Clay, Clearwater, Cook, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Itasca, Kanabec, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Pine, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Roseau, Saint Louis, Stevens, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin Counties.
